Detroit East Riverfront Parking Study
PROJECT SUMMARY: The City of Detroit’s planning services are organized and developed through neighborhood-level plans across the city. Since 2017, the City has partnered with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) and Detroit Riverfront Conservancy (DRFC) on planning efforts in the East Riverfront neighborhood.
In Fall 2018, the DEGC initiated the East Riverfront Parking Study to assess existing parking challenges in the neighborhood, and identify actionable strategies for managing travel demand in a manner supportive of the East Riverfront Framework Plan. DEGC contracted Nelson\Nygaard to lead the study, with support from MKSK, Quantifly, and Sam Schwartz Engineering. As can be seen in the map above, parking supply is plentiful in the neighborhood today. However, during major events in the neighborhood today and through ongoing development, residents, workers, and visitors often experience parking challenges. The Parking Study identifies opportunities and action items for unlocking new parking access within the existing neighborhood parking supply.
